CARJ
has implemented a successful pilot schools project to support
black and minority ethnic
pupils in seven Islington schools, in North London. They are:
Blessed Sacrament, Christ the King, Sacred Heart, St Joan of Arc,
St John the Evangelist, St Joseph’s, and St Peter and St
Paul. The aim of the project working with 10 -11 year olds, and
their parents and teachers was twofold:
To
develop self awareness among the young people making them cognisant
of their strengths and weaknesses and ways to manage self: socially
and academically.
Empower
schools to work more effective with the identified groups of pupils
and their parents for the implementation of the schools Pilot
project.
To
achieve these goals three major activities were undertaken during
the autumn term as follows:
Insets
in some schools (September-November 2006)
Parents Meeting (October2006 - present)
Inter-School Debates (November 2006)
Based on the success of the Pilot Phase, CARJ is embarking on
Phase 2 of the project which is expanding to other boroughs following
positive feed back form Headteachers.
